چکیده

The performance of a large-scale water Cherenkov neutrino telescope relies heavily on the transparency surrounding water, quantified by its level light absorption and scattering. A pathfinder experiment was carried out to measure optical properties deep seawater in South China Sea with light-emitting diodes (LEDs) as sources, photon multiplier tubes (PMTs) cameras sensors. Here, we present an simulation program employing Geant4 toolkit understand scattering processes seawater, which helps extract underlying from experimental data. results are compared data show good agreements. We also verify analysis methods that utilize various observables PMTs this program, can be easily adapted other experiments future detectors.

Time calibration system for the KM3NeT deep sea neutrino telescope

In this contribution we review the time calibration system proposed for the future underwater KM3NeT neutrino telescope. Building on the experience gained with the pilot projects, ANTARES, NEMO and NESTOR, and the results in-situ from the ANTARES Optical Beacons, we propose a decoupled optical system, based on LEDs and lasers, to perform an intra-line and inter-line relative time calibration. T...

Skymap for atmospheric muons at TeV energies measured in deep-sea neutrino telescope ANTARES

Recently different experiments mention to have observed a large scale cosmic-ray anisotropy at TeV energies, e.g. Milagro, Tibet and SuperKamiokande. For these energies the cosmic-rays are expected to be nearly isotropic. Any measurements of cosmic-rays anisotropy could bring some information about propagation and origin of cosmic-rays. Though the primary aim of the ANTARES neutrino telescope i...

The Relevance of Mediterranean Neutrino Telescope Sites on Earth-skimming tau neutrino detection

Neutrinos are one of the main components of the cosmic radiation in the ultra-high energy (UHE) regime. Although their fluxes are uncertain and depend on the production mechanism, their detection can provide information on the sources and origin of the UHE cosmic rays. For example, UHE neutrinos can be produced via πphotoproduction by strongly accelerated hadrons in presence of a background ele...

KM3NeT: A Next Generation Neutrino Telescope in the Mediterranean Sea

To complement the IceCube neutrino telescope currently under construction at the South Pole, the three Mediterranean neutrino telescope projects ANTARES, NEMO and NESTOR have joined forces to develop, construct and operate a km-scale neutrino telescope in the Mediterranean Sea. Since February 2006, the technical specifications and performance of such a detector are studied in the framework of a...

KM3NeT: A km3-scale neutrino telescope in the Mediterranean Sea

The KM3NeT consortium aims at the construction of a research infrastructure in the Mediterranean deep sea, hosting a neutrino telescope with an instrumented volume of several km3 and an integrated platform for earth and deep sea sciences. The telescope location in the Mediterranean Sea will allow for surveying a large part of the Galactic Plane, including the Galactic Centre, thus complementing...
